My Story

Born and bred in Spain, but English at heart, my name is Belén Martínez and I am a London-based professional translator specializing in creative translation (or transcreation) and localization.

During my childhood in Spain, a very young and impressionable me discovered Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. I fell in love with the clothes, the hair, the makeup and obviously the songs. It was rather unfortunate that I simply couldn’t understand a word they said! “I shall have to learn English to understand and translate their songs”, I said to myself. And so my course in life was set!

I graduated in English Philology from the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and completed my education with a Master’s Degree in Translation at the University of Westminster (London). I am also a Qualified Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting.

I worked for SDL, a leading translation and localization company, for over a decade. I progressed from translator to translation manager and managed large and extremely complex projects with dozens of multilingual resources.  It was challenging work, but I missed the hands-on creativity.

I decided to go back to what I love and started working for myself as an independent translator.  I had a clear aim in mind: to provide beautifully crafted creative translations to tell your story in Spanish.

I have nearly twenty years´ translation experience and although my taste in music has changed somewhat, I continue to be driven by my vocation for languages and tailoring the right messages for you and your brand.
